Easy Cranberry Sauce
Recipe from Set for the Holidays
Appetite for Random House, 2018
Homemade cranberry sauce is simple to make. I add the twist of a little orange liqueur, but this can be omitted for a more traditional sauce.

Ingredients
- 4 cups (440 g) fresh or frozen cranberries
- 1 cup (250 mL) water
- Pinch of ground cloves
- 3/4 cup (150 g) granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup (60 mL) pure maple syrup
- 1 oz (30 ml) orange liqueur
NOTES: You can refrigerate the cranberry sauce in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks, or freeze it for up to 3 months.
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Place the cranberries, water and cloves in a saucepan over medium heat and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to medium-low for a gentle simmer, and cook, uncovered, for 10 minutes (or 15 minutes if starting with frozen cranberries), stirring occasionally, until most of the cranberries pop.
Step 2
Add the sugar and maple syrup and cook for another 10 minutes, until the cranberries have broken down and are shiny and translucent. Add the orange liqueur and cook for just 1 minute before removing from the heat to cool. Chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
